MODEL NUMBERS
Rolex assigns each of its watches a unique 4–6 digit reference number, located between the lugs above the 12 o’clock position. This code provides information about the watch’s model, bezel design, and case material. For example, in the reference 16234, the first three digits “162” indicate it’s a Datejust, the “3” represents a fluted bezel, and the final “4” refers to stainless steel paired with an 18k white gold bezel.

Reference Numbers
Rolex Reference numbers are found engraved between the lugs at the 12 o'clock side of every Rolex watch. This can help identify the Rolex model type, bezel and material. The first few digits represent the model number, and may be followed by a number to indicate bezel type and/or watch material.
