The Must de Cartier Tank SM ref. 5057001 is one of the most elegantly proportioned and collectible pieces in the entire vintage Cartier catalogue — a small-model Tank in vermeil (gold-plated sterling silver) that wears with the understated, jewellery-like confidence that only Cartier achieves.

 This example is fitted with the highly desirable black lacquer "tri-panel" dial — a stepped, architecturally divided dial surface in deep black lacquer, edged with a fine gold border that creates an inner frame effect and gives the watch a graphic, almost Art Deco drama that the more common white Roman numeral dials simply cannot match. Gold Roman numerals mark the hours at 12, 3, 6 and 9, with diamond-shaped gold indices at the remaining positions — a detail of considerable refinement. The "must de Cartier" signature sits in Cartier's elegant gold script at 12 o'clock, complemented by gold-toned sword-shaped hands.

 The gold-plated sterling silver case retains the pure, unadorned Tank geometry — wide parallel bands, vertical sides, and acrylic crystal — with the fluted crown set with Cartier's signature blue synthetic spinel cabochon. Powered by a Swiss quartz movement, the watch is completed on a black leather strap with a gold-tone pin buckle.
