Description:
The Rolex Submariner Date reference 16800 marked a significant evolution for the model, introducing a sapphire crystal, quickset date function, and 300m water resistance when it was released in 1979, all while retaining the black aluminium bezel insert that defines this pre-ceramic era. The 40mm Oystersteel case is fitted with a unidirectional rotatable bezel, paired with a black dial set with luminous circular and rectangular hour markers and Mercedes-style hands. Powered by the automatic Calibre 3035, the watch remains a highly regarded vintage reference among Submariner collectors. The watch is fitted on the sturdy Oyster bracelet.
This example dates to 1987, was serviced by Rolex in 2023, presents in excellent condition, and comes complete with its watch, box, and service card.
