Description
Among the many watchmakers that didn’t survive the Quartz Crisis, few names are as historically significant as Universal Genève. After its decline, the brand was acquired in 1989 by Hong Kong–based Stelux, which revived it with a series of vintage-inspired releases—including the Compax 1950 seen here.
Drawing inspiration from Universal Genève’s celebrated mid-century chronographs, the Compax 1950 ref. 184.445 debuted in the early 1990s as a limited edition of just 500 pieces in 18k yellow gold. It features a 36mm case with elegantly sculpted lugs, classic pump pushers, and an engraved yellow gold bezel, blending vintage design cues with more contemporary execution.
The watch is fitted with a crisp white dial and three oversized subdials, powered by the manual-wind UG cal. 84 movement, which is based on the Lemania cal. 1873. Altogether, the Compax 1950 stands as a strong example of neo-vintage Universal Genève at its finest. This piece presents in excellent condition as watch only.
