The Zenith Defy Xtreme Open El Primero reference 96.0525.4021 is one of the most dramatic and technically accomplished sports chronographs ever produced by the Le Locle manufacture. The 46.5mm three-body case is crafted from black titanium with a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) treatment, delivering extreme hardness and scratch resistance while keeping weight to a minimum. The unidirectional rotating bezel features bold engraved numerals, raised five-pointed star cardinal markers — a nod to the iconic Zenith star emblem — and a 15-minute graduation. The centrepiece of the watch is its extraordinary multi-layered open-worked dial, combining black carbon fibre, shock-resistant Hesalite and brushed aluminium to create a spectacular three-dimensional view of the movement beneath.

The legendary El Primero Calibre 4021 SX beats at 36,000 vibrations per hour and is visible through a turbine-shaped grille protecting the escapement, while a nine-branched propeller-shaped 30-minute chronograph counter and a three-bladed propeller small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock reinforce the watch’s aviation-inspired aesthetic. A segmented power reserve indicator sits above the 6 o’clock position. All hands feature red SuperLuminova inserts for maximum night-time legibility. Carbon fibre inserts adorn the screw-down chronograph pushers, and a helium escape valve is positioned at 10 o’clock, underscoring the watch’s 1,000-metre water resistance rating.
